Large Format Printing Explained: Banners, Backdrops, Vehicle Wraps & Wall Graphics (2026)
Body copy
Large format printing covers anything bigger than A3 — from a 60 × 90 cm pull-up banner to a building wrap measuring tens of metres. It is the backbone of event branding, outdoor advertising and environmental graphics.
This guide explains the main large format products, what they cost, how long they last, and what to specify when you order.
Banners
Banners are the most common large format product. They are used for events, promotions, construction sites and outdoor advertising.
Types of banner material: - PVC (440gsm) — the default. Waterproof, durable, good for general outdoor use. - PVC (510gsm matte) — heavier, more premium, better for longer-term outdoor display. - Mesh — perforated to let wind through. Essential for building wraps and any large outdoor banner exposed to wind. - Fabric — wrinkle-free, premium look, best for indoor exhibitions and photo backdrops. Not waterproof. - Reflective — visible at night under headlights. Used for roadside and safety signage. - Canvas — heavy, textured, best for indoor displays and photography.
Cost: KES 550 – 6,000 per square metre depending on material Lifespan: 1–3 years outdoors depending on material and UV exposure
Backdrops
Backdrops are large printed backgrounds used for events, press conferences, photo booths and stage branding. They are one of the highest-impact event branding products.
Types of backdrop: - Step-and-repeat backdrop — a repeating logo pattern, used for red carpet events and photo opportunities. Costs KES 2,500 per square metre. - Media wall — a large branded backdrop for press conferences and media events. Costs KES 35,000 – 65,000 depending on size. - Tension fabric backdrop — a wrinkle-free fabric backdrop stretched over an aluminium frame. Billboards

What affects the price
Material is the primary driver. A 440gsm PVC banner and a reflective banner can differ by a factor of three or four for the same area.
Size is not linear. Doubling the area does not double the cost. Large formats benefit from economies of scale in printing.
Finishing adds cost. Eyelets are standard and usually free. Pole pockets, hems and reinforced edges are charged extra but worth it for outdoor use.
Installation is separate. Most printers charge for installation on large formats. Ask whether it is included before comparing quotes.
